Following on from its “Read the Bill” campaign, the Israel Consumer Council announces a competition to find “The Biggest Billing Error

A survey conducted by the Israel Consumer Council showed that only about half of consumers check their bills, and that the errors found by those who do check come to a total of one billion Israeli Shekels each year.

In light of these findings, the Council announced a campaign, “Read the Bill,” aimed at encouraging consumers to check the bills they receive, and to assert their rights to have any errors corrected.
As part of the campaign, the Council has made available, on its website, guides to reading the most common types of bill. The Council calls on the public to make use of these guides to help them understand their bills.

In addition, the Consumer Council recently announced a competition – “The Biggest Billing Error.” Consumers are invited to submit bills containing errors to the Council’s Facebook page. At the end of the competition, the bills will be checked, and the one with the largest billing error will win the person who submitted it - a voucher for a VIP dinner for two.

Consumer Council CEO, Adv. Ehud Peleg, says that checking the bill is the consumer’s tool for checking and preventing overpayment. It also allows consumers to make intelligent choice about how to spend their money, and where to make savings.
